Your degree – what does the course entail?

The accredited dual study programme, with a focus on business management, begins on 1 October or 1 April and takes three years to complete. The theory and practical phases of the course alternate and are closely interconnected. Overall, the theoretical studies comprise a period of 22 months in blocks of around six months at our own University of Applied Sciences in Hachenburg, which is located in the Westerwald. The practical studies, which last several weeks at a time, are spent at our branches, regional offices and at the Bundesbank's Central Office. In addition, under certain circumstances, you will be able to organise an alternative practical work experience at an appropriate institution outside the Bundesbank in Germany or abroad. Possible institutions may for example include foreign central banks, supervisory authorities or international organisations. After successfully completing your degree, you will be awarded the academic title Bachelor of Science.

Course contents – what will I learn?

Aside from business knowledge, you will also acquire an understanding of economic relationships and basic knowledge of the German legal system. Your main focus will lie on a central bank's range of tasks. As part of your theoretical studies, you will cover German and English language modules such as "Payments", "Credit and banking supervision" and "Monetary economics" During the practical part of your studies, you will be applying your theoretical skills by actively participating in the operational procedures and by working on complex issues independently.

Your study environment – attractive course conditions

During the theoretical parts of your course you will be living at Hachenburg Castle. The study modules generally take place in the mornings and comprise small groups of around 30 students. This personal atmosphere enables issues to be discussed as a team, which considerably contributes to the learning effect. Outside the classroom, you can form study groups to go through the contents of the module again together. We will also provide accommodation for you during the practical part of your studies close to your respective place of work.

The beginning of your studies will also be the starting point of your career in the Bank's Upper Intermediate Service. Your pay is in line with the Federal Civil Service Remuneration Act (Bundesbesoldungsgesetz) and amounts to approximately €1,100 per month net for the length of your studies. Students who have successfully completed a special apprenticeship a net monthly salary of €1,420.

Your prospects – what awaits me on completion of my degree?

While you are still studying, you will choose your main focus of studies which can provide you with a basis for your future job. However, this is not compulsory. As a generalist, you will find a number of attractive and varied possibilities from the Bundesbank's entire range of tasks throughout Germany.

On completion of your degree, you will initially be accepted into the civil service on probation and subsequently into the permanent civil service, provided that the relevant conditions are fulfilled. From then onwards, your net monthly salary will be around €2,270. Persons who are married or have children will receive a family allowance.

Our requirements profile – what qualifications/skills do I need?

We expect the following from our future students.

• A general higher education or university of applied sciences entrance qualification or an equivalent leaving certificate qualifying you for university entrance
• Good written and oral communication skills
• A high level of proficiency in English
• Strong analytical skills
• Willingness to work anywhere in Germany
• Compliance with the prerequisites stipulated in section 7 of the Federal Civil Servants Act (Bundesbeamtengesetz)
